A hybrid inverter is almost never quoted as a line item in the Famagusta district. Companies price the system it sits inside: storage at roughly €442 to €782 per kWh installed and commissioned, and PV at roughly €828 to €1,196 per kWp — both the lowest district ranges on the island. The inverter decides whether those two numbers work together, and it is the part of the specification a comparison between quotes usually fails to cover.

Local market summary

The bookable Famagusta district is the free area: Paralimni, Ayia Napa, Protaras, Deryneia, Sotira and Liopetri. That is a compact service territory with a small resident contractor base, and a significant share of the companies working there are based in Larnaca and travel across. Travel time is priced, which is why the district with the lowest material and labour rates does not always produce the lowest final quote on a small job.

Demand here has a shape that appears nowhere else in Cyprus. Ayia Napa is predominantly seasonal tourist accommodation and Protaras carries a high share of holiday lets, so a hybrid inverter bought for a Paralimni family home and one bought for a Protaras apartment block answer different questions. The domestic buyer wants self-consumption from an array that generates hardest at the hours the house is empty. The accommodation owner wants continuity: an August supply interruption is a refunded booking, and backup capability is worth more than arbitrage arithmetic.

Inland, around Deryneia, Sotira and Liopetri, the picture is agricultural. Pumping loads, cold storage and packing sheds run in daylight, so self-consumption is already high before any battery is fitted and the storage is bought for evening load or resilience rather than to soak up an export surplus.

Three-phase is more common here than the residential ranges suggest, because tourist premises and agricultural units both tend to have it. Supply in Cyprus is 230 V single phase and 400 V three phase at 50 Hz, and a three-phase site rules out much of the single-phase hybrid range before any other criterion.

What it costs here

Two price bases carry the quote. Storage is priced per kWh of installed capacity; the PV that feeds it is priced per kWp installed. The inverter sits in both figures and in neither.

Famagusta sits below the national median on every solar and electrical line, and the gap is consistent rather than random. Certified electrical labour in the district runs from about €29 to €60 an hour with a median near €41, against a national median of €45. Where a genuinely standalone system is specified — an agricultural plot with no economic connection route — the applicable range is off-grid rather than grid-tied, from roughly €1,472 to €2,668 per kWp installed, because the battery, charge control and generator interface sit inside that figure.

What moves a quote within the storage range, in order of how often it decides the number:

  1. Usable capacity versus nameplate capacity

Two quotes at the same euro-per-kWh are not comparable if one states nominal capacity and the other usable. Price against usable kWh at a stated depth of discharge.

  2. Continuous power rating, not stored energy

An accommodation block that wants lifts, corridor lighting and reception running through an interruption is buying kW, not kWh. Storage sized on energy alone can hold up for hours and still refuse to start a motor load.

  3. Backup output scope

Whole-premises backup requires a changeover arrangement and a rated backup port. A single essential-loads circuit is a fraction of the cost. This is the largest single swing in Famagusta quotes for tourist accommodation.

  4. Array to inverter ratio

A DC to AC ratio of roughly 1.1 to 1.3 is normal on Cyprus roofs. Above that the inverter clips through the middle of the day — precisely when the generation is there to be stored.

  5. Condition of the existing board

Boards in the older Paralimni and Sotira housing stock often need replacing before an inverter can be connected compliantly.

Local conditions that change the job

The connection application is submitted by the installer before commissioning, not by the owner afterwards, and around 45 days is typical processing. In this district that interacts directly with the season. Ayia Napa refurbishment is concentrated in November to March, and Protaras holiday lets offer only short windows between bookings, so an application lodged in February for work before Easter is a realistic programme and one lodged in May is not.

Salt is the second, and it applies to Paralimni, Ayia Napa and Protaras alike. Rail fixings, earthing clamps, enclosure glands and cabinet hinges all corrode faster on the coastal strip. Marine-grade or hot-dip galvanised fixings are the correct coastal specification, and the battery enclosure should be sited away from prevailing salt-laden air rather than on the nearest external wall.

Heat is the third, and it is the one that costs output. Inverters derate at high ambient temperature and lithium batteries have a narrower operating window than the inverter feeding them. A cabinet on a west-facing wall in a Famagusta August is at the edge of its envelope at the hour the array produces most. Ventilated siting is worth more here than any datasheet efficiency figure.

Grid capacity is the fourth. Feeders serving the dense tourist strip carry a concentration of existing connections, and export applications there are the ones most likely to return with a load assessment attached rather than an approval. Inland the constraint is longer rural runs and weaker fault levels, which affects loss-of-mains settings. EN 50549-1 covers generating plant connected in parallel with a low-voltage network and IEC 62619 covers the lithium cells; both belong on the quote.

Registered storage and PV contractors, Famagusta district

No companies listed here yet.

Companies are listed with their registrations, the services they record and how long they have been trading. Nothing is ordered by payment, and no star ratings or customer reviews are collected or displayed anywhere on this site — the ordering rests on what a document can prove. The battery storage service pages carry the fuller technical picture, and the Famagusta district pages list who works across the free area.

Two credentials are worth confirming before signing. The electrician performing the work should be certified for the installation class involved, and on a three-phase or commercial installation the person signing the design should be an engineer registered with ETEK. On a tourist block with a backup changeover arrangement the second is not optional, and a contractor who is vague about who signs has answered the question already.

Common questions

Why are Famagusta prices lower than Limassol or Paphos?

District ranges reflect what has been quoted in each district, and Famagusta records the lowest figures of any district on both the storage and PV basis. The caveat is travel: a contractor coming from Larnaca prices the journey, and on a small job that can close the gap entirely.

Can a hybrid inverter be fitted to an array that is already installed?

Usually, but the retrofit is an electrical job with its own scope rather than a component swap. String voltages and currents have to fall within the new unit's tracker window, the existing protection may need revising, and the connection arrangement changes because the system now stores as well as exports.

Does adding storage change the grid connection application?

Yes. A storage-capable system is assessed on what it can do at the connection point, so the application reflects the inverter's capability rather than the array alone. It is submitted before commissioning, and around 45 days is the typical processing time whether or not a battery is included.

What size backup is realistic for a holiday apartment block?

That is decided by which loads have to stay live, not by the number of units. Corridor lighting, the reception desk and a water pump are a modest continuous rating. Adding a lift or air conditioning turns it into a motor-starting problem, which is a power question rather than a capacity one. List the circuits by name before agreeing any kWh figure.

Is off-grid worth considering for an agricultural plot near Sotira?

Only where the connection route is genuinely uneconomic. Standalone systems in the district run from roughly €1,472 to €2,668 per kWp installed against €828 to €1,196 for grid-tied, and that gap buys autonomy rather than energy.

What should a Famagusta quote contain?

Usable kWh at a stated depth of discharge; the inverter's continuous AC output and its separate backup rating; the DC to AC ratio; the proposed battery position with its ventilation and temperature assumptions; the fixings specification for a coastal site; the standards the equipment is certified against; who submits the connection application and when; and the name of the certified electrician, plus the registered engineer on a three-phase job.
